Scoring system

The judging panel in rhythmic gymnastics consists of judges who are responsible for evaluating the routines. It is divided into three main areas:

D-Panel (Difficulty): Evaluation of the difficulty level

A-Panel (Artistry): Evaluation of the artistry and composition

E-Panel (Execution): Evaluation of the technical execution

D-Panel – Difficulty
The D-judges evaltuate the difficulty elements demonstrated in the gymnasts' routines. A distinction is made between two components:

  • DA – Apparatus technical difficulties
  • DB – Body difficulties: jumps, stands, turns, risk elements

Both sub-scores (DA and DB) are determined separately and then combined to form the D-score.

A Panel – Artistry
The A-judges evaluate the composition of the routine as well as artistic aspects such as musicality, expression and originality. After deducting any artistic errors, the A score is determined.

E-Panel – Execution
The E-judges evaluate the technical execution of the routine. Deductions are made for technical errors, e.g. imprecise body technique or sloppy apparatus handling. After these deductions, the E-score is determined.

Overall score
The final score for the routine is made up of three component scores:
Final score = D + A + E
This scoring system ensures that both the technical difficulty and the artistic and technical quality of an exercise are fully taken into account.
